China will introduce new standards for food quality this year as part of an overhaul of the quality control system.
Deputy of China's top legislature, National People's Congress, Sun Qixin, says the food quality in China is undertaking a gradual improvement since its reform and opening-up process which began thirty years ago.
The general situation of food quality in China is getting much better and the central government now issues a series of management regulations in this area.

China has implemented very strict market access criteria to health products. The government will also carry out spot test on some crucial products. Those unqualified in the market circulation will be immediately recalled as well.
To address food safety issues, the Chinese government launched a four-month nationwide campaign in late August last year to crackdown on unlicensed food shops and suppliers, and on sales of food products without quality and inspection certificates.
The government's efforts have received positive responses from the public.
