Saturday marks International Women's Day. Over 120,000 Chinese have participated in an international campaign online to fight violence against women, which encourages people to sign for the cause.
The capmaign, Say No to Violence against Women, was initiated by the United Nations Development Fund for Women, or UNIFEM.
Guo Ruixiang is the co-ordinator with UNIFEM in China.
At present, violence against women is probably the most pervasive human rights violation, affecting as many as one in three women and girls. The UNIFEM will cooperate with organs of United Nations, governments, non-government organizations and network to boost the gender equality.
The activity in China was jointly organized by the Network for Combating Domestic Violence of China Law Society and 163.com.
The UN Foundation will donate 1 US dollar for each of the first 100,000 signatures given to the UN Trust Fund.
The fund will provide financial and technical assistance to innovative programs and strategies aimed at fostering women's empowerment and gender equality.
The Say No to Violence against Women campaign runs until November.
