口译原文：I want to discuss the implication of my statement in the last lecture that the world is divided up into two groups: the rich and the poor. Here are some startling facts. One-fourth of the world's population lives in the so-called developed, or industrialized, countries. Three-fourths of the world's population live in the poorer, developing countries. Examples of the developed countries are the United States and Japan. Examples of the developing countries are Brazil and Egypt. Yet one-fourth of the population, or developed nations, effectively controls the whole world. Isn't that amazing! For example, the developed countries use 80 percent of the resources of the world and they account for 85 percent of the total expenditures of the world. What, you may ask, are the implications of these facts?

口译原文：中国地广人多，地区之间、城乡之间、民族之间的差异较大，推行计划生育是一项十分复杂的工作。中国政府根据国情制定人口和计划生育政策、人口控制目标时，既考虑到国家社会经济发展的需要和国家的长远利益，也考虑到不同地区、不同民族、不同社会阶层的实际情况和群众的意愿与接受能力，把国家指导与群众自愿结合起来。
参考译文：Due to its vast territory, large population and the great differences between regions, urban and rural areas and ethnic groups, the promotion of family planning in China is a highly complicated task. When working out the policies of population and family planning, and the objectives of population control in accordance with the actual conditions in the country, the Chinese government took into consideration the needs of the social and economic development of the state and its long-range interests, as well as the actual conditions of different regions, ethnic groups and social strata, the people's wishes and attitudes, to combine state guidance with voluntary participation by the masses.
