(CCTV 06-09-2008 20:52)Hong Kong health officials have slaughtered 2,700 chickens in a local market after five birds were found to be carrying the H5N1 bird flu virus.
Health officials have declared the market in Kowloon an infected area. All sales of live poultry have been suspended, and authorities are prepared to cull all live poultry in the region if the virus spreads. Government officials are now tracing the origin of the infected chickens.
A 21-day ban on the supply of live poultry from the mainland and local farms began on Sunday. The infection was found during a routine bird flu check.
