(CCTV 06-06-2008 09:13)Rising fuel costs have sparked resentment from consumers around the world. Protests have erupted in some countries.

About 400 to 500 bikers disrupted rush hour on Thursday in Manchester, England, in a protest against rising fuel prices.

Motorcycling groups organized the demonstration, and they were joined by some taxi and lorry drivers.

They set off together at 8 am local time from a service station and on to the motorway.

In Madrid, over 15,000 taxis were expected to take part in a go-slow protest.

They drove off from the Atocha rail station at less than 10 kilometers per hour along the Paseo la Castellana, one of the city's busiest avenues.

They're angry that the higher fuel charges have cut into their salary raises.

Bernardo Serna, Madrid taxi driver, said, "It is very clear, we got a miserable salary raise because of the huge rise in the fuel prices. We don't want to increase the price of the service, what we need is a tax decrease".

In Paris, dozens of lorries blocked a motorway leading into the capital. This follows a month of similar protests by truckers, fishermen, and farmers.

Truckers want low-cost diesel reserved for professional users and a locked-in price for 12 months.

Gilles Mathelie-Guinlet, Gen. Sec'y European Road Transport Org., said, "France is 30% over the European average, and we work 20% less than our European competitors, so if you put the two together, it means that French haulage contractors are more expensive than the European price which means that we can't live off our job any more."

Strikes shut down transport, businesses and schools in three Indian states.

While consumers get used to costlier fuel, officials at state-run refiners said Wednesday's price rise was higher than they expected but still inadequate, given crude oil's record run.
