The Lebanese army now has troops deployed around the country. After nearly a week of clashes between government supporters and backers of Hezbollah, the army says it will use force if necessary to maintain order.
Lebanon's military says armed civilians will be stopped from roaming the streets, and calls on all groups to cooperate.
While troops were deployed, funerals were held all over Lebanon to bury the victims of the violence.
Sunni parliamentary majority leader Saad Hariri made his first public appearance since the clashes began.
Saad Hariri said, "This is something that is far bigger than Hezbollah to decide. This is being decided by the Iranian and Syrian regime that wanted to gain a political game in Lebanon on the streets and thinking that using force will enhance the political position of Hezbollah or Syria or Iran. For us, nothing has changed."
Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal claims that Iran supported a Hezbollah "coup." Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denies the allegations. He says Iran is the only country which does not interfere in Lebanon's internal affairs.
An uneasy calm returned to Beirut on Tuesday as shops re-opened and cafes began to fill.
Analysts say the army has ended its neutral stance, and will likely step up its involvement to bring an end to some of Lebanon's worst internal fighting.
