The latest CPI data shows food prices soared 21 percent in March. But happily, consumers are finding that egg prices have been decreasing since October.

In the first quarter this year, egg prices dropped by nearly 7 percent, due to excessive supplies. But this decrease has seen farmers lose money, as feed prices become even more expensive.

Henneries are reporting that feed prices are a third higher than before, forcing some of them to shut down. The government is taking measures to subsidize egg production, fearing the sector could face the same dilemma as pork. Pork prices in China have jumped dramatically since 2007, as pig farmers shut down due to higher costs.
